Target Recalls Baby Wipes for Potential Microbial Contamination
Target said the wipes may cause serious infections in infants and young children, and customers should return them for a full refund.
Target is voluntarily recalling Up & Up Fragrance Free and Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes after Food and Drug Administration testing identified Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria in product samples.
Customer complaints regarding product discoloration and adverse events, including skin and eye irritation, prompted investigations by Target and wipes manufacturer Sapro Temizlik Urunleri into the potential contamination.
Newborns and infants face heightened risk from contaminated products due to immature immune systems, the FDA warned, with exposure potentially causing life-threatening infections such as sepsis or pneumonia.
Consumers should immediately stop using recalled wipes and return them to any Target store for a full refund; Target Guest Relations is available at 1-800-440-0680 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT daily.
Target continues coordinating with the manufacturer to investigate the contamination while a spokesperson stated the company "cares deeply about the safety of our guests and our products.
