Taiwan May Issue Sea Warning as Another Typhoon Approaches
Authorities ordered nearly 260,000 evacuations and canceled more than 500 flights as Typhoon Dolphin threatened violent winds, heavy rain and high waves.
Taiwan's Central Weather Administration said on Friday a sea warning for Typhoon Dolphin could be issued as early as Friday afternoon, with a potential land warning for offshore Matsu Islands or northern Taiwan to follow if the storm's circulation moves close enough.
Packing maximum sustained winds of 144 kph, the Category 1 typhoon is moving westward at 17 kph, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency , which monitors the storm's intensity as it nears Japan's southwestern islands.
