Why Syracuse's Vacant Property Fire Problem Is a Headache for Taxpayers

CITY OF SYRACUSE, JUL 31 – City Auditor Alex Marion highlights 25 vacant property fires caused by neglect and homelessness, costing Syracuse over $1 million and straining fire department resources in 2024.

In 2024, there were 87 structural fires in the city, 25 of them occurred at vacant properties.
