How Anthony Ippolito Talked His Way Into Playing Sylvester Stallone in 'I Play Rocky'
Anthony Ippolito sent an unsolicited tape and won over director Peter Farrelly, who said the actor was exactly what the film needed.
27-Year-Old actor Anthony Ippolito secured the lead role in 'I Play Rocky,' a film directed by Oscar-winning director Peter Farrelly chronicling Sylvester Stallone's determination to write and star in the original Rocky.
Farrelly was convinced after receiving an unsolicited audition tape from Ippolito and canceled a planned worldwide search, saying, 'I knew he was good for what we had, but I didn't realize how this guy can transform.'
To prepare, Ippolito explored Stallone's difficult childhood and limited parental support, aiming to 'strip away the celebrity' of a man who reportedly rejected $300,000 offers to keep his screenplay and starring role.
Ahead of the movie's limited release Friday, Stallone told The Associated Press, 'The kid did a great job,' despite remaining uninvolved in production beyond a conversation with Farrelly.
As buzz surrounding the film grows, Ippolito is experiencing the intense spotlight that transformed Stallone's life, describing the reception as 'very, very gratifying' while stepping into the public eye.
