Sydney Childcare Worker Faces 329 Charges After Name Is Unmasked
Police say 329 charges include producing child abuse material and filming private acts, with 136 victims identified and 22 still unknown.
Following the lifting of a non-publication order on Monday, 35-year-old Hamish Tait was identified as a childcare worker facing 329 charges regarding the alleged abuse of 158 children across 62 facilities.
Operation Moonbi, a 12-month investigation, analyzed 2.4 million electronic files and uncovered evidence that Tait allegedly committed multiple offences between 2009 and 2025 across the childcare centres.
Police identified 136 victims, though 22 remain unidentified. Acting Commander Needham stated, "Unfortunately, we have uncovered evidence of him sharing this material with an individual overseas."
Federal Education Minister Jason Clare announced a half-billion-dollar investment for safety reforms including a national childcare worker register and CCTV trials, while Federal Attorney-General Michelle Rowland condemned the alleged crimes.
The AFP established a local contact point which received about 40 calls within hours of Tait's identity being reported, providing families access to health professionals and support services.
