Switzerland Exports Organs – While Switzerland Dies on the Waiting List

Switzerland exports organs abroad for which domestic recipients exist. Swisstransplant's director admits: "We have a problem."

Liver transplants are decreasing in Switzerland. While the number of people on waiting lists is still high, some organs go abroad, reveals an article from the NZZ am Sonntag Sunday. This paradoxical situation is linked to sampling techniques.

Within two years, 20 donor livers were exported abroad, even though there were suitable recipients in Switzerland. Hospitals have become more reluctant, says the Swisstransplant director.
