QUEBEC, CANADA, JUL 31 – Naomi Osaka saved two match points to defeat Liudmila Samsonova and recorded her first top-20 win since the Australian Open after changing coaches this week.
- On Thursday at the WTA Canadian Open in Montreal, Iga Swiatek advanced easily to the third round, while Naomi Osaka battled past Liudmila Samsonova in three sets.
- Swiatek entered her first tournament since winning Wimbledon against Amanda Anisimova, while Osaka faced Samsonova after recently splitting with coach Patrick Mouratoglou over the weekend.
- Osaka overcame early struggles and saved two match points to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 with Tomasz Wiktorowski debuting as her new coach.
