West Bengal Election: Suvendu Adhikari's Aide Chandranath Rath Shot Dead in Post-Poll Violence
On Wednesday, Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas district.
The killing occurred less than 48 hours after the BJP defeated the Trinamool Congress , led by Mamata Banerjee, in assembly elections, triggering a wave of post-poll violence across the state.
At least two people were killed and 433 arrested in related clashes, including BJP worker Madhu Mondal and Trinamool worker Abir Sheikh, who died on Tuesday in separate incidents allegedly involving opposing political cadres.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar directed the West Bengal Chief Secretary, Director General of Police , and Central Armed Police Forces to ensure zero tolerance toward post-poll violence and immediately arrest those involved.
The Trinamool Congress demanded a court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation probe, while the West Bengal BJP leadership urged supporters to shun violence amid the political unrest.
