'Suspicious in my mind': Wildfires lead to structures destroyed, arson investigation
High winds and heat fueled wildfires in Oklahoma, destroying a home and railroad bridge while forcing evacuations and prompting an arson investigation.
Scott Douglas with the Oklahoma City Fire Department said the fire started about 50 to 60 yards south of an earlier extinguished blaze, which he found suspicious given winds around 20-plus miles an hour.
Douglas said crews deployed air tactical units and heavy equipment to dig a massive fire line, while the blaze consumed a home, two outbuildings, two RV trailers, and a large barn; no injuries were reported.
Resident Linda Wortman said her home was spared from the flames. Her neighbor Charlie rescued her dogs while she worked, earning praise as "totally an amazing man."
Arson investigators are now examining the scene to determine if the fire was a criminal act. Neighbors expressed relief as smoke lingered in the area following the destruction.
