Surrey wrestling sisters named to Team Canada for Pan-Am Championships

Two South Surrey sisters, Ana and Karla Godinez Gonzalez, were named to Team Canada for the 2025 Senior Pan-American Championships in Monterrey, Mexico, May 8-11.
Wrestling Canada Lutte announced the 20 athletes on May 1 as part of a team featuring many past national champions and international medallists, reflecting the Pan-Am region's growing global success.
Ana, who has claimed titles including the U23 world championship and two Senior Pan-American gold medals, and finished fifth at last summer’s Paris Olympics, will compete in the 62-kg division, while Karla is set to participate in the 55-kg category.
The director of high performance at Wrestling Canada Lutte noted that the Pan-American region secured 33% of the women’s and 17% of the men’s Olympic medals in Paris, reflecting ongoing progress on the world stage.
The upcoming Pan-Am Championships provide valuable international experience ahead of the Canadian Wrestling Championships in Edmonton and the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, in September.
