Supermarkets will be allowed to sell tobacco products again starting January 1, 2027. With this, Minister of Public Health Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) accepts a ruling by the Constitutional Court. "The negotiations within the government were tough; ultimately, the decision was made to drop this so that the ban on flavored vapes can be implemented," says the Foundation Against Cancer.
As from 1 September 2028, flavourings for electronic cigarettes will be prohibited, with the exception of tobacco and neutral 'savours'. Objective: to stem the fulgurant progression of vaping among young people, and with it future addictions.
Shops in Belgium will be allowed to sell tobacco again as of January 1, 2027. The Constitutional Court ruled that an existing sales ban for larger stores is discriminatory. The government has until the end of this year to come up with better legislation, but will not do so.
