The city was captured by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces one week ago, with experts believing thousands may have been killed in widespread massacres. With internet and phone services cut off, those living abroad are forced to sit and wait to learn if their loved ones are still alive.
Civilians are the first victims of the conflict between the RSF militia and the Sudan's regular army, which has been going on for more than two and a half years in the country.
