Pontiac introduced their answer to the “Personal Luxury Car” caprice in 1962, when the Grand Prix premiered. The moniker urged the other General Motors Divisions to follow suite, with Buick replying with the 1963 Riviera, Oldsmobile raising the bet with the 1966 Toronado, and Chevrolet finally laying down the cards in 1970, with the Monte Carlo.
