Student in Kochi booked for allegedly morphing teachers’, students’ photos into obscene content
Police booked a second-year BBA student as the MSF sought urgent action to remove morphed images and block accounts spreading them.
- Thrikkakara police registered a case against a second-year BBA student for allegedly morphing photographs and videos of teachers and students into obscene content. The action followed a complaint filed by college authorities.
- The Muslim Students Federation Malappuram district committee lodged a complaint alleging that morphed images of female students from eight colleges, originally taken during Onam celebrations, were being widely circulated on social media.
- According to the FIR, the student collected photographs and videos from college events to create the content. College authorities discovered the issue after students noticed the manipulation and handed over the mobile phone allegedly used.
- District Police Chief Chaithra Theresa John directed Deputy Superintendents of Police to take action across respective areas. Farhan Biyyam, MSF district president, said "We have already handed over the details of the colleges and the students to the police."
- The student was booked under laws relating to insulting the modesty of women, publishing obscene material in electronic form, and indecent communication. The MSF continues seeking stringent action against those circulating the images.
