Storm Chandra will bring 30-80 mm of rain and gusts up to 80 mph, causing flooding, travel disruption, and significant snow across high ground in the UK, Met Office says.
- On Monday, the Met Office issued a 17-hour yellow warning from January 26 to January 27 as Storm Chandra is forecast to bring strong winds, heavy rain and snow to the UK on Tuesday.
- The Met Office said: 'Outbreaks of rain will spread northwards on Monday night into Tuesday, falling as snow on high ground with increasing depths, with potential in the Pennines, southern Scotland, and the Highlands.'
- Amber alert for South West warns of heavy rain and gusts up to 80mph, with 60-80 mm likely across some higher ground, especially south Dartmoor, and gusts of 70 to 80mph in Isles of Scilly, western Cornwall and south-west Wales, as forecasters say.
- Flooding of homes and businesses is likely and the Met Office warns fast-flowing or deep floodwater poses a `danger to life`, while transport disruption and power cuts may occur and South Shields pier and sea wall have suffered severe coastal damage.
- Storm Chandra follows recent storms Ingrid and Goretti, the Met Office urged people to stay updated with warnings, and the next storm will be called David.
