Steelers WR Michael Pittman Jr. (foot) to miss multiple games
Head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the receiver’s multi-week absence due to plantar fasciitis, a development threatening to sideline the $59 million signee for at least four games.
On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Michael Pittman aggravated his foot injury and will miss multiple games, sidelining him from Sunday's matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Acquired from Indianapolis in March, Pittman signed a three-year, $59 million contract with the Steelers as a former 1,000-yard receiver, but the investment has struggled to produce results amid durability concerns.
Pittman has recorded seven receptions for 89 yards through three games this season, including three catches and 58 yards in the opener against the Atlanta Falcons, while battling plantar fasciitis that has limited his impact significantly.
Rookie second-round pick Germie Bernard has stepped into an expanded role, recording seven receptions for 60 yards through his first four NFL games, while Roman Wilson has also taken on increased responsibilities in the Pittsburgh offense.
An injured reserve move would guarantee Pittman misses at least four games; Pittsburgh's Week 9 bye means the roster decision could extend his absence well into November as McCarthy continues evaluating his position.
