Starmer's plan to recognise Palestinian state labelled 'appeasement towards jihadist terrorists' by Netanyahu
UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 30 – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer sets a September deadline for recognising Palestine unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire and peace steps amid Gaza's worsening humanitarian crisis.
- In a televised Downing Street address Tuesday, Starmer stated the UK will recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September unless Israel takes substantive steps to end Gaza’s situation, agree to a ceasefire, and pursue peace.
- Facing pressure from over 250 lawmakers, Starmer announced the UK will recognize Palestinian statehood after an emergency Cabinet meeting and UN warnings of famine in Gaza’s over two million residents.
- At the same time, the plan stipulates Hamas must release all Israeli hostages, disarm, and play no part in Gaza's government, while Israel must allow UN aid and avoid West Bank annexations.
- Meanwhile, France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot welcomed London joining 'the momentum created by France' to 'stop the endless cycle of violence,' in response to the UK recognition plan.
- Before the UN General Assembly in September, the UK will assess progress on Israel and Hamas meeting conditions, with Britain and France hoping others follow their recognition move.

After the New York conference on a two-State solution in the Middle East and the announcement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that the United Kingdom in turn was considering recognizing a Palestinian State, the French President scored points on the intern…

Independent Palestine would be a disaster for Palestinians
On July 24, 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron said France would recognize a Palestinian state. For proponents of Palestinian statehood, winning the endorsement of its first G7 member is a watershed. Macron may be endorsing a Palestinian state for the wrong reasons: He fears the restiveness of his own Arab population and wishes to appease a domestic Islamic bloc that cares little for French laicism. If it requires throwing Jews under the bus…
