Star WR Malachi Toney Dealing with Ankle Issue, Status for Miami-Notre Dame Unclear
- Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Malachi Toney is uncertain for Saturday's road game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish after suffering an ankle injury during practice, according to reports from ESPN.
- While social media rumors intensified Wednesday, ESPN College Football Senior Writer Pete Thamel confirmed the injury occurred during practice. Miami has not officially commented on the sophomore's status.
- Toney has dealt with minor setbacks throughout the 2026 season without missing significant time, appearing in all 24 of his career games. He is pushing to play Saturday despite the ankle issue.
- If Toney is limited, the Hurricanes may rely on senior transfer Cooper Barkate, who has 28 catches for 372 yards. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman noted the defense must prepare for Miami's receiving corps.
- Saturday's matchup holds major College Football Playoff implications for both undefeated Miami and the Fighting Irish. Toney enters the game with 73 catches, 1,027 yards, and 13 touchdowns this season.
