Super Bowl LXI Heads to a Galaxy Far, Far Away With Star Wars Funday Football
The broadcast will recreate every play in real time and use NFL tracking data to turn players into animated avatars.
On Sunday, February 14, 2027, Disney and the NFL will present "Star Wars Funday Football," a real-time animated alternate telecast of Super Bowl LXI. Original cast member Anthony Daniels returns to voice C-3PO, airing across Disney+, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and the ESPN App.
Disney has produced several animated "Funday Football" altcasts featuring "Toy Story" and "Big City Green" characters in recent years. The company considered a Super Bowl "mega cast" since 2021, when a rights deal kept "Monday Night Football" on ESPN through 2033.
Animation is powered by Sony's Beyond Sports, which combines NFL Next Gen Stats with Hawk-Eye Innovations optical tracking. Real-life players become animated avatars, with Star Wars characters subbing in during key moments and every play recreated in real time.
The game will be available in more than 155 markets worldwide and joins other Super Bowl productions including "Field Pass" with Pat McAfee and a "ManningCast" featuring Peyton and Eli Manning. Disney will also offer a statistics-focused telecast titled "Playbook" on NFL Network.
Starting Tuesday, October 20, "SC+", ESPN's daily SportsCenter show on Disney+, will feature "Star Wars Hyperspace Highlights" with Monday Night Football plays. The game arrives during Lucasfilm's 50-year Star Wars celebration, preceding a theatrical re-release of the original 1977 film on February 19.
