Colts Reportedly Called Peyton Manning After Firing Chris Ballard for GM Job
Dan Patrick said the team wants to know whether Manning would run the front office and take an ownership stake.
On Monday, the Indianapolis Colts fired General Manager Chris Ballard following a 26-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Reports indicate the team has reached out to former quarterback Peyton Manning regarding the vacant GM position and a potential ownership stake.
The dismissal of Ballard occurred after the Colts fell to a 2-4 record amid their second two-game skid. Owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon emphasized conducting a thorough search for the right leader during the active season.
"The Colts' first call will be/has been to Peyton Manning," Dan Patrick revealed on The Dan Patrick Show Monday. Patrick stated the inquiry explores whether Manning would be interested in the GM role with an ownership stake.
This search marks the first major executive hire for the daughters of the late Jim Irsay since they assumed control of the franchise. A similar structure could mirror the Atlanta Falcons' approach, giving Manning meaningful voice in team direction.
Manning has resisted executive roles since retiring a decade ago, instead building his media company, Omaha Productions. It remains unclear whether he has been contacted or would consider the position if offered.
