Stankoven nets 3 as Hurricanes crush Vancouver Canucks 7-2
Logan Stankoven scored three times and Andre Svechnikov added two as Carolina went 3-for-3 on the power play.
On Thursday, Logan Stankoven scored his first career hat trick to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 7-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Lenovo Center in Raleigh.
Power play efficiency defined the game, with Carolina finishing 3-for-3, including two goals from Andre Svechnikov for a 3-0 lead, while Vancouver went 0-for-4.
Jake DeBrusk scored both goals for the Canucks, but goaltender Kevin Lankinen faced heavy pressure, stopping 12 of 18 shots before Leevi Merilainen replaced him after two periods.
Mark Janikowski and Andre Miller also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions, while goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves to earn the win.
Vancouver continues its six-game road trip, visiting New Jersey on Saturday; the team has allowed three shorthanded goals in five games this season.
