Kenyan editor found safe after abduction, Standard Group says
Standard Group said the associate editor was taken from his car by armed men and found safe hours later after an earlier attempt in June.

- This incident marks the second time Kiprotich has been targeted within two months. He previously escaped an abduction attempt by armed men on June 27, 2026, while driving to work in Nakuru.
- Dashcam footage showed four armed, masked men blocking the journalist's vehicle before dragging him away. Witnesses reported that Kiprotich appeared shaken and injured when found Wednesday morning, hours after the incident.
- Standard Group CEO Chaacha Mwita condemned the abduction, stating, "This is a really sad thing to happen in a country like Kenya that says it is free." The Standard has frequently criticized President William Ruto's government.
- Police confirmed they are investigating the circumstances of the abduction. Dozens of government critics have been reported missing in Kenya since June demonstrations, despite government denials of state security involvement.
