Cyclone Ditwah caused over 334 deaths and displaced more than 200,000 people, severely impacting 25 districts and destroying over 15,000 homes, authorities reported.
- On November 30, 2025, the Disaster Management Centre said the death toll had risen to 334 and more than 1.3 million people were affected by the record rains.
- Cyclone Ditwah made landfall on 28 November and breaches of tank bunds including Mavilaaru and Kelani River flooding worsened inundation while saturated slopes raised landslide risks, the National Building Research Organisation said.
- Initial assessments show more than 15,000 homes destroyed, more than 180,000 people from over 51,000 families sheltering in 1,094 government-run safety centres, and over 200 roads impassable with at least 10 bridges damaged.
- The United Nations in Sri Lanka activated its emergency coordination system on Sunday to scale up response as the health system faces severe pressure and India and Pakistan emergency teams support rescue efforts.
- Officials compared the damage to the 2004 Asian tsunami and noted the losses are the worst since then, while receding waters in Manampitiya revealed widespread destruction after the island's worst disaster in two decades.
