Wildfire Near Coldstream Now Held, According to BC Wildfire Service
NORTH OKANAGAN, BRITISH COLUMBIA, JUL 2 – The wildfire, held at about 0.08 hectares, is believed to be human-caused and involved two attack crews and a helicopter, BC Wildfire Service said.
A wildfire was reported at approximately 1:15 p.m. on July 2, located southeast of Coldstream along the forest service road by King Edward Lake, situated between Coldstream and Lavington.
The fire likely started due to human activity, and initial reports indicated the blaze was out of control at about 90 square metres.
BC Wildfire Service deployed two initial attack crews, a helicopter, and local fire department assistance while smoke was seen along Highway 6 heading southeast.
The wildfire, currently contained at 0.08 hectares, is not expected to expand further given the existing weather and fuel conditions, according to a spokesperson for the BC Wildfire Service.
This containment suggests the wildfire is controlled, although monitoring continues because of its human-caused origin and recent rapid response deployment.
