Sports & Youth Ministry: HYROX KL Event "Will Not Be Approved" Unless Alcohol Sponsors Withdraw
The ministry said the event remains unapproved until all beer branding is removed, citing rules that bar alcohol companies from sponsoring sports.
Youth and Sports Minister Mohammed Taufiq Johari announced that the HYROX Kuala Lumpur 2026 event will not receive approval unless organizers completely withdraw their beer company sponsorship.
Article 5.2 of the Safe Sports Code prohibits alcohol companies from sponsoring or promoting trademarks at any KBS-regulated sporting activities without exception.
Screenshots naming the brand as an "Official Beer Partner" went viral recently, prompting the Ministry to mandate removal of all associated logos and promotional materials from the event.
Minister Taufiq reminded organizers that the Sports Development Act requires a valid license, with violations potentially resulting in fines up to RM500,000 or imprisonment of up to five years.
Although HYROX incorporates alcohol partners globally, the Ministry maintains strict local regulations to ensure a safe sporting environment for all participants, including Muslims in Malaysia.
KUALA LUMPUR: The controversy over the sponsorship of alcoholic beverage companies for the HYROX Kuala Lumpur 2026 event has finally reached a tipping point when the organisers decided not to continue the collaboration for the Malaysian edition.
