Carmen Mlodzinski Gets Plenty of Support as Pirates Shut Out Cardinals
Spencer Horwitz homered and Konnor Griffin had four hits as Pittsburgh scored four runs in the eighth and ended a four-game skid.
On Wednesday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 7-0, snapping a four-game losing streak behind Spencer Horwitz's home run and Konnor Griffin's four hits.
Pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski improved to 3-0 against the Cardinals while allowing four hits; Horwitz's second-inning homer and Jhostynxon Garcia's fourth-inning single built an early 2-0 lead.
Relievers Yohan Ramirez, Evan Sisk, Justin Lawrence, and Dennis Santana combined for scoreless relief, while the Pirates scored four runs in the eighth inning off Matt Svanson, highlighted by Bryan Reynolds' two-run double.
Despite loading the bases against Ramirez, St. Louis failed to score; the shutout marks the second time this season the Cardinals have been blanked, following a loss to Kansas City on Sunday.
Thursday's series finale features Pirates RHP Braxton Ashcraft against St. Louis RHP Dustin May in a matchup that continues the teams' season series.
