Why there is disunity in the minimum wage between the Union and the SPD

Union and SPD express themselves in their coalition agreement indistinctly on the minimum wage target of 15 euros. However, this should exist long ago, the union Verdi criticizes accordingly.

The SPD wants to increase the minimum wage and relieve citizens with small and medium incomes. This is what the coalition agreement says. However, it contains a clause with which everything can be relativised. Merz relies on it – the SPD is irritated.

In their government treaty, SPD and Union actually wanted to regulate everything exactly and leave little room for interpretation. That didn't work out. The dispute over the minimum wage could only be the beginning.

The SPD accuses Friedrich Merz of withdrawing from the "agreed" 15 euros in the minimum wage. However, the coalition agreement does not say that the lower wage limit must rise to 15 euros.
