According to data from Spanish network operator Enagas, Spain did not import any liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in September. This development, in line with the European Union's goals to reduce energy dependence, marks the first time in five years that the country has experienced a full month of zero Russian LNG imports.
Imports from the United States grew by 80% in September 2026 compared to the same month a year ago, reaching 13,461 gigawatt hours (GWh).
