SpaceX to Give Anthropic Access to Its Massive AI Supercomputer

The deal gives Anthropic more than 300 megawatts of new capacity and over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs, easing limits for Claude Code users.

  • On Wednesday, Anthropic announced a deal to secure all compute capacity at SpaceX's Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee, providing more than 300 megawatts and over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs.
  • Effective Tuesday, Anthropic doubled Claude Code's five-hour rate limits across Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans while raising Claude Opus API limits considerably on the same date.
  • Anthropic stated the expanded capacity will directly improve service for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers, and the company "expressed interest" in developing multiple gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity with SpaceX.
  • The partnership proceeds despite SpaceX owner Elon Musk running competing firm xAI and posting on X that Anthropic is "doomed to become the opposite of its name," while the Defense Department embraces xAI's Grok model.
  • Anthropic's broader infrastructure strategy includes a $50 billion investment with Fluidstack, 5 GW agreements with Google and Broadcom, and Amazon partnerships delivering in-region capacity in Asia and Europe for compliance-focused enterprises.
