SpaceX Targets Nighttime Launch of Competitor Amazon's Satellites

This launch increases Amazon’s Project Kuiper constellation to 153 satellites as part of a plan for 3,236 satellites to provide global broadband internet, FCC data shows.

  • On Saturday, October 11, SpaceX is targeting the KF-03 Falcon 9 liftoff from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station — Space Launch Complex 40 no earlier than 8:41 p.m. ET.
  • Amazon turned to SpaceX to speed launches after delays to United Launch Alliance's Vulcan, Blue Origin's New Glenn and Arianespace's Ariane 6, while using a $140 million satellite processing facility at Kennedy Space Center.
  • A Falcon 9 will carry 24 Project Kuiper satellites on the KF-03 mission, deploying them about 56.5 minutes after liftoff at roughly 289 miles over 7.5 minutes.
  • The launch would bring Kuiper to 153 satellites total as the KF-03 mission marks the sixth overall and third SpaceX-contracted flight, with backup windows on October 10th and October 12.
  • SpaceX's Starlink already operates more than 8,500 spacecraft while Amazon's Project Kuiper plans 3,236 satellites under a Federal Communications Commission license requiring half by July 2026.
