Southampton research reveals how Africa may split to form new ocean

ETHIOPIA, JUN 30 – Researchers found a dynamic mantle plume beneath Ethiopia’s Afar region driving tectonic rifting that could form a new ocean basin, based on analysis of over 130 volcanic rock samples.
