South Sudan Flooding Displaces 335,000 as Nearly 1M Affected

  • Friday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said more than 960,000 people have been affected and around 335,000 displaced across six states in South Sudan.
  • The flooding has compounded an already critical humanitarian situation in South Sudan, driven by conflict and acute food insecurity affecting 7.7 million people, with more than 104,000 malaria cases reported by WHO.

  • The National Child Labour Study found 64 per cent of children aged five to 17 forced into labour, and Chris Nyamandi, Save the Children's South Sudan country director, said `Education remains the strongest protective factor`.
