South Africa: Courts and Commissions - Matlala Returns to Hot Seat
Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala returns to the Madlanga Commission to address previously omitted information involving senior police officials and his alleged underworld links.
Matlala previously refused to answer questions about the R228-million Medicare24 tender during his last appearance, prompting the commission to seek fuller disclosure.
Among those Matlala is expected to implicate are suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, former KwaZulu Natal Hawks head Leseja Senona, and former Organised Crime head Richard Shibiri.
In the Eastern Cape, police arrested four suspects following boxing champion Zolani Tete's killing on Friday; one 22-year-old faces murder and attempted murder charges in the Mdantsane Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Musician Molemo Katleho Maarohanye, known as Jub Jub, appears in Germiston Magistrate's Court over an alleged June 14 firearm incident in Edenvale, while the long-delayed Steve Bantu Biko inquest resumes in Gqeberha's High Court.
