Detroit Red Wings Captain Dylan Larkin Reportedly Requests Trade
Larkin has five seasons left on an $8.7 million AAV deal and can block a move to most teams for two more years.
On Thursday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin requested a trade, holding a full no-trade clause for the next two seasons.
Persistent playoff struggles prompted the decision, as the Red Wings have missed the postseason for 10 straight years, notably posting a 5-9-1 record in March after holding a playoff spot in February.
A franchise cornerstone, Larkin has five seasons remaining on his $8.7 million AAV contract and ranks 10th in team history with 276 goals in 558 regular-season games.
Interest in Larkin may come from clubs seeking top-six centers like the Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, and Montreal Canadiens, with the Kings and Bruins needing replacements for Kopitar and Patrice Bergeron.
His potential departure would leave the Red Wings in need of a new center, and with winger Patrick Kane hitting free agency, the move would trigger an overhaul of Detroit's top six.
