‘Celebrating From a Higher Place’: Mother of Senior Fatally Shot at Westside Burger King Accepts His High School Diploma
Natasha Jackson honored her son’s goal of graduating with his twin sister and is launching a foundation to help Jacksonville seniors.
On Friday, Natasha Jackson accepted the high school diploma of her late son, 18-year-old Matthew Jackson, during a ceremony at Riverside High School in Jacksonville, Florida, calling it an honor.
Investigators say Matthew was killed in Nov at a Burger King after he stepped in to break up a fight between one of his co-workers and another man.
His dream was to join the Marines, and Matthew had hoped to graduate alongside his twin sister, Madison, who walked the stage without him.
Now, Natasha Jackson is launching the Matthew Legacy of Life Foundation to provide scholarships for high school seniors in Jacksonville, turning pain into community purpose.
She hopes the foundation and Matthew's story will help other families grieving loss to violence, as she seeks to find great avenues to overcome this.
