NVIDIA Issues vBIOS Update to Fix RTX 5060 (Ti) Reboot Black Screens
- NVIDIA released an optional vBIOS update on May 28, 2025, to fix a black screen reboot issue affecting RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti cards on certain systems.
- The problem results from a firmware-level communication failure between the RTX 5060 series vBIOS and some motherboard BIOS/UEFI, especially in legacy mode.
- To update the firmware, users should run NVIDIA’s dedicated UEFI update utility version 2.0 within the operating system while a functional display is active, after confirming that the motherboard BIOS is current and the system is configured to boot in UEFI mode.
- NVIDIA emphasizes that the update should only be installed if users experience the black screen issue and warns that interrupting the firmware flashing process, such as through a power outage, could cause serious damage to the device.
- This firmware patch targets only RTX 5060 series cards and suggests the issue stems from NVIDIA's firmware code, with users advised to consult vendors for legacy BIOS support if needed.
