Solidarity surcharge: Federal Finance Minister welcomes Soli ruling of the Constitutional Court

The solidarity surcharge is still constitutional. The conditions set by the Federal Constitutional Court are currently fulfilled, but do they have a deterrent effect for the future?

The solidarity surcharge could have long since been abolished. Instead, it became a rich tax – under the cheer of journalistic envy. That Karlsruhe declared this right clearly shows what freedom rights in Germany still mean today.

The 5.5% solidarity contribution has been in effect indefinitely since 1995, while from 2021 it was limited to the 10% of taxpayers with the highest incomes.

Praise and criticism come from the parliamentary groups. While the SPD and the Greens welcome the ruling to retain the solidarity surcharge, the AfD continues to call for its abolition, which the CDU also does not rule out.
