Solicitor Charged over 3D Printed Firearms
Police allege the solicitor possessed a semi-automatic firearm, two pistols and hundreds of rounds of ammunition after searches at two Moree properties.
Police arrested a 32-year-old Moree solicitor on Tuesday, August 11, charging him with 16 weapons offenses. The Aboriginal Legal Service employee will appear by video link in a Sydney bail court today.
Strike Force Temarang, established by the State Crime Command's Drug and Firearms Squad, launched inquiries into 3D-printed firearms in Moree this April. Detectives executed a firearm prohibition order compliance check at a Sunnyside Road home.
At a Frome Street office, police allegedly seized a 3D printer and firearm blueprints, alongside a bolt-action rifle and two pistols discovered at Sunnyside Road. Investigators also found hundreds of rounds of ammunition and manufacturing equipment.
Charges include manufacturing prohibited firearms, acquiring ammunition subject to prohibition, and failing to comply with a digital evidence access order. Following arrest, he was taken to Moree Police Station for processing.
This case underscores ongoing efforts by the NSW Police to combat 3D-printed weapon manufacturing in the North West. Authorities continue investigating firearm importation and manufacturing activities linked to the broader inquiry.
