Trump Claims over 24,000 Noncitizens Voted Illegally in 2020 - The Tribune
Trump said the Census Bureau found more than 24,000 noncitizen ballots in 2020, but preliminary results showed no swing-state outcome would change.
- On Tuesday, President Donald Trump alleged the Census Bureau identified 24,000 noncitizen votes among 128 million voter records checked so far. "The Census Bureau has begun checking the Voter Records from 2020 against their Citizenship Records. On the first 128,000,000 Voters, the Census Bureau proves that over 24,000 Noncitizens voted illegally!"
- Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick suggested the remaining 32 million ballots could include "tens of thousands of additional illegal voters," writing that "The American people deserve transparency" regarding the ongoing analysis in coming weeks.
- Although the Census Bureau report details these findings, data indicates none of the critical outcomes in any major 2020 presidential contest would have been altered by the noncitizen ballots reported. President Joe Biden defeated Trump by over 7 million votes nationwide.
- Trump urged passage of THE SAVE AMERICA ACT following the release, which would require photo identification and proof of citizenship to vote. The White House cited the analysis to support enhanced election security measures.
- In New Jersey, Gov. Mikie Sherrill said her administration removed about 6,600 noncitizen residents from voter rolls following a "serious software error in New Jersey's Motor Vehicle System" under Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy.
