In the last fifteen years, tens of millions of solar panels have been installed on roofs of houses, supermarkets, and sometimes in the field. Their lifespan is on average 30 years. But some, damaged by the weather, have to be removed long before. Plants then recycle rare metals from photovoltaic cells, such as copper, silicon and silver.
