Fresh snow warning issued for parts of England as flooding expected in more than 70 areas
Flooding threatens over 70 UK areas with 74 warnings and 162 alerts active as snow and ice cause travel disruption, the Environment Agency said.
- The Met Office issued yellow snow and ice warnings across large parts of the UK, with flooding expected in over 70 areas and a snow warning for eastern England from 10:00–16:00 and Scotland until 10:00.
- Amid blustery conditions, the Met Office forecast that 'Rain moving eastwards through Sunday morning is likely to turn increasingly to sleet and snow,' producing slushy accumulations of 1cm with a chance of 2cm in Lincolnshire Wolds, Norfolk, and Suffolk.
- Accumulations will vary by elevation, with 1-3cm at low levels, 3-7cm above about 150m, and 10-15cm above 400m; ice will create very slippery conditions in north-east England and parts of Scotland.
- On Sunday morning officials reported 74 flood warnings and 162 flood alerts across England, and Jonathan Day, flood duty manager at the Environment Agency, said more than 24,000 properties have been protected but about 330 flooded.
- Next week will bring unsettled and blustery conditions with showers easing into Tuesday before another system arrives on Wednesday, and Thursday is expected to be drier.
