Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Finally Brings 8Kp60 Video to Smartphones
The chip adds 13% faster CPU performance and 8Kp60 video capture as Qualcomm pushes more AI and imaging features for premium phones.
At its Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, with the Extreme variant enabling 8K video recording at 60 frames per second.
Qualcomm's dual-flagship strategy aims to 'push the boundaries of what's possible for mobile' while offering OEMs greater choice, according to Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handsets at Qualcomm Technologies.
The Extreme processor features 'Neural Fusion,' an AI-dedicated pipeline, while a rearchitected Adreno GPU delivers 35% improved performance and 40% better power efficiency compared to last year's generation.
Motorola launched the Signature 27, the first smartphone to feature the Extreme chip, showcasing advanced photography including 4K slow-motion recording at 240 frames per second.
Both platforms power 'agentic AI' features that are 'immediate, personal, and adaptive,' Qualcomm says, with devices from leading smartphone brands becoming available soon.
