Snap Specs Are AR Glasses that Look Like that and Cost $2,195
The glasses use on-device AI, dual Snapdragon chips and a 51-degree display, and Snap is targeting developers and early adopters first.
- On Tuesday, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel unveiled the new consumer Specs AR glasses at the Augmented World Expo in Long Beach, California. The $2,195 standalone wearable is available for preorder today with a $200 refundable deposit.
- Snap spent over a decade developing the eyewear to bring digital experiences into the real world. Unlike previous developer-only versions or tethered competitors, these glasses feature on-device computing that eliminates external pucks or cables.
- Powered by dual Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, the glasses offer 4 hours of battery life, extending to 20 hours via a charging case. The 132g to 136g device features electrochromic lenses and a 51-degree field of view.
- Analysts note the high price point makes the device a challenging sell for Snap's younger core audience. While Meta's Ray-Bans and Apple's Vision Pro compete in the AR space, Snap targets tech enthusiasts with premium, untethered hardware.
- Shipping this fall in the U.S., U.K., and France, the device integrates contextual AI and EyeConnect for multi-player sessions. Spiegel plans to release parental tools later this year to manage lens access for teenagers.
