Small Business Optimism in Canada Collapses to 25-Year Low

(Bloomberg) — Optimism among Canada’s small and medium-sized firms fell to the lowest level in at least a quarter-century after the US started a trade war with the country, according to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

TORONTO - The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says small business confidence dropped to an all-time low in March as the trade war with the U.S. ramped up.

The latest report from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) shows that as the trade war with the United States escalates, Canadian business confidence has fallen to an all-time low, with the hotel, manufacturing, transportation and agriculture industries being particularly hard hit.

Economic uncertainty limits home builder sentiment

Home builder sentiment fell this month amid economic uncertainty, tariffs and higher-than-average construction costs, according to the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index.  Builder confidence in the market for newly single-family homes fell three points in March to a seven-month low of 39.
