Slovenia’s Parliament Approves Right-Leaning Government as Jansa Returns as PM for a Fourth Time
The 15-member Cabinet pledged tax cuts, anti-corruption measures and closer ties with Israel after winning support from a five-party coalition.
On Thursday, Slovenia's parliament approved Prime Minister Janez Janša's center-right government in a 49-30 vote, marking his fourth term in office.
Janša's Slovenian Democratic Party formed a coalition after former Prime Minister Robert Golob's Freedom Movement failed to secure a parliamentary majority following inconclusive March elections.
The Prime Minister introduced his 15-strong Cabinet and pledged to cut what he called "record-high taxes" and reform Slovenia's "incredibly overblown bureaucracy" compared with other European countries.
Analysts suggest the government will shift toward a pro-Israel stance, reversing the previous administration's 2024 recognition of a Palestinian state. Janša invited opposition parties next week to help draft key legislation.
Known for a combative, Trump-like governing style, Janša has faced scrutiny over media freedom and democratic institutions during previous terms. Yet he told lawmakers, "A hand is offered," signaling intent to cooperate.
