Six killed in stampede at temple in India's Haridwar, ANI reports
HARIDWAR, UTTARAKHAND, JUL 28 – A rumour of an electric current triggered panic among thousands of devotees during the holy month of Shravan, causing a stampede that killed six and injured 29, officials said.
- At around 9 am on Sunday, SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal confirmed, at least six people died in a stampede at the Mansa Devi Temple, Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
- During the holy month of Shravan, thousands of devotees thronged the temple stairway, prompting a dangerous crush.
- Haridwar district magistrate Mayur Dixit said a rumour about electric current on the pathway led to the stampede, while eyewitnesses reported chaos as queues turned into panic.
- The temple gates were closed and all pilgrims were asked to return, while Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said SDRF and local police teams are engaged in relief operations.
- Haridwar Kotwali in-charge Ritesh Shah said the temple reopened at 4 pm, and Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dikshit said a probe report will be submitted within 15 days with recommendations.

At least six people were killed in a stampede after a large crowd gathered at the Mansa Devi temple in the northern Indian city of Haridwar, ANI reported on Sunday, citing Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey.
