Six Flags Great Adventure Closes 'Nitro' Coaster Following Death at Georgia Park
Six Flags said it closed similar attractions across its parks out of caution while investigators probe a Georgia ride death that left one person dead and four injured.
On Tuesday, Six Flags temporarily closed the Nitro roller coaster in New Jersey following a fatal incident on the Goliath ride in Georgia on Monday.
Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, died Monday after falling from the Goliath roller coaster shortly before 4 p.m.; investigators are examining the circumstances.
Six Flags Entertainment Corp. shuttered nine similar roller coasters across six North American parks 'out of an abundance of caution' while the investigation continues.
Affected rides include Raging Bull in California, Fury 325 in North Carolina, and Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland, all manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard.
Nitro, which opened in 2001, has no prior history of serious injuries, though Six Flags has not provided a timeline for reopening.
