Canada’s Wonderland closes 2 rollercoasters as precaution after deadly incident in Georgia
Six Flags said it closed similar attractions across its parks after one man died and four people were injured on a Georgia coaster.
Canada's Wonderland closed the Behemoth and Leviathan rollercoasters on Monday following a deadly incident at Six Flags Over Georgia, located about 24 kilometers northwest of Atlanta.
One person died and four people were injured Monday on the Goliath coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, prompting the precautionary closure of similar attractions across the company's parks.
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation shut down nine rollercoasters across six parks in North America; all are hyper coasters manufactured by Bollinger and Mabillard, the same type as the Georgia ride.
Sara Gorgon, a spokesperson for Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, said the company temporarily closed attractions "out of an abundance of caution," with no timeline provided for reopening.
The closure follows Six Flags Magic Mountain's recent announcement in Southern California that it is retiring the X2 roller coaster amid lawsuits, while Six Flags Over Georgia has recorded at least seven deaths historically.
