- Earlier this month, DBT confirmed Sir Alan Bates's claim against Horizon was settled and over 1.2 billion has been paid to more than 9,000 victims.
- During 1999–2015 the Horizon faults led to around 9,000 wrongful prosecutions and convictions, and the ITV drama Mr Bates Vs The Post Office heightened public awareness.
- Sir Alan plans to move to Wales and write his memoirs after settling, which Sky News reported may have been between 4 million and 5 million, having rejected two counter-offers from the Department of Business and Trade.
- Sir Alan Bates urged greater focus on criminal probes as `all the baddies seem to be hiding` and around 100 subpostmasters remain unsettled.
- The redress scheme remains ex gratia, meaning officials do not legally have to compensate, and Sir Alan Bates called it `quasi-kangaroo courts`, urging claimants to keep challenging decisions.
