Sheetal Devi-Toman Kumar Win Archery Gold at Asian Para Games 2026
Sheetal Devi overcame a four-point deficit to defend her individual compound title and added a second gold after the mixed team win.
On Thursday, Indian para archers Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar won gold in the compound mixed team event at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Nagoya, defeating Indonesia's Teodora Audi Ayudia Ferelly and Ken Swagumilang 151-148.
The top-seeded duo entered the final after setting a world record of 1,402 points in qualification at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, surpassing the previous mark by two points.
Born without arms, Devi uses her feet, legs, shoulder, and jaw to operate her compound bow, a distinctive technique that allows her to compete against the world's leading para-archers.
Later that day, Devi secured a second gold medal by defeating Singapore's Nur Syahidah Alim 142-139 in the women's individual compound final, marking her third medal of the Games.
India currently holds fifth place in the medal tally with 73 total medals, including 17 gold, aiming to surpass South Korea, which leads by just one gold medal as competition continues.
Sheetal Devi won her second consecutive gold medal at the Asian Para Games, defeating Alimah Nur Syahidah of Singapore 142-139 in the women's compound individual final. She has now won three medals at the Games, including two gold and one silver.
